David Warner saves Josh Hazlewood from being exhausted; watch

Mumbai: David Warner may mostly be remembered for his alleged involvement in the sandpaper-gate scandal during the 2018 South Africa Test match series in which he along with Cameron Bancroft and Steve Smith applied sandpaper on the red ball to alter the course of the match.

Following Warner’s action, the Australia cricket board (Cricket Australia – CA) suspended him and Smith for one year, while Bancroft received nine months ban.

However, after one year, both Steve Smith and David Warner returned to international cricket and apologised for their actions. The duo shrugged off their actions by shattering runs during the recently concluded World Cup and the on-going Ashes.

During the third day of the 3^rd Ashes Test, David Warner showed that he’s ready to give everything to ensure Australia wins the match. On Day 3, after the end of every over, Warner ran between the umpires and bowlers, carrying their caps to help the bowler save some energy to scalp wickets against England.   

The Australian bowlers tried everything to penetrate through England’s defences, but Joe Denly, Joe Root and Ben Stokes kept the bowlers at bay to revive England’s hopes of levelling the series.

VVS Laxman, who worked with Indian Premier League club Sunrisers Hyderabad, had once stated about the Australian opener in a TV show, “Warner is a very misunderstood man. He reminds me of Andrew Symonds. Symonds used to say that he was a soldier for the team. I think Warner also thinks like that, that he can do anything for the team. Remember that what he did in the Sandpapergate scandal was for the benefit of his team’s bowlers. Tampering the ball would help him in no way.”
