'Our team is West Indies, not just the Windies', says CWI president, Ricky Skerritt
Skermitt said, 'the fans of the West Indies team and the people have asked for the actual name of the team to be returned to 'West Indies'.
Mumbai: Ricky Skerritt, the new president of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) wishes his team be known only as West Indies and not just the Windies.
Speaking exclusively over telephone from the Caribbean island, he said, "the fans of the West Indies team and the people of our region have asked for the actual name of the team to be returned to "West Indies".
"Windies is a brand name that will still be used commercially, but selectively".
"The name of the board was changed a few years ago from West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) to Cricket West Indies (CWI). That will not change", he further added.
Interestingly, Richard Pybus, who has been stripped off the coaching role by the new management is still working with the West Indies players.
"Yes, Mr. Pybus is still employed in the same position he was hired for-High Performance Director", he added.
Pybus has still few months left for his contract .
