RCF-Nadkarni Cup set to commence from Tuesday

Defending champions Air India and last year’s runners-up PIFA Colaba, along with 14 other Elite and Super Division clubs from the city will be fighting it out for  top honours in the 111th RCF-Nadkarni Cup knockout football tournament at the RCF Colony ground, Chembur from Tuesday.

The other Elite Division teams participating, Western Railway, Central Bank of India, Union Bank of India, Mumbai Customs, Kenkre FC, Karnatak SA, Mumbai Strikers and Century Rayon.

The remaining teams in the draw are Bank of India, Mumbai Port Trust, Dena Bank, Indian Navy, HDFC Bank and Millat FC ‘A’.

Matches will be played on a direct knockout basis. In case of a draw at the end of the 90-minute regulation period, the tie-breaker will be enforced to decide the outcome of the match.

The semi-finals will be played on February 14 and 15 and the final is scheduled for February 17.

The champions will be presented with the Nadkarni Cup and a cash award of  Rs 1 lakh, while the runners-up will receive a cash prize of Rs 60,000. The ‘Player of the Tournament’ will stand to earn Rs10,000.
