Salvation, Sacred Heart sneak into semi-finals
Striker Bryce Miranda netted the all-important winner.
Our Lady of Salvation Parish, Dadar brushed aside a spirited challenge from Holy Family Parish, Andheri by pulling off a 1-0 win in a keenly contested men’s quarter-final match of the Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana organised 30th Inter-Parish Rink Football Tournament 2017 and played at the WCG’s floodlit tennis courts. Striker Bryce Miranda netted the all-important winner.
In another interesting men’s quarter-final encounter, Sacred Heart Parish, Andheri did well to put it across St. Andrew’s Parish, Bandra by an identical 1-0 margin with Declan Gonsalves scoring the lone winning goal. Meanwhile, former Junior India striker Karen Pais played an inspirational role to help Immaculate Conception Parish, Borivali overcome St. Andrew’s Parish, Bandra 5-4 via the tie-breaker in a Women’s semi-final match. The match had finished in an exciting 3-3 draw.
The clinical striker scored two goals in regulation period and one in the crucial penalty shootout duel to secure the win for the Borivali team and take them to the final. Eleizer Pais had scored the third goal in normal play and Aditi Shetty in the tie-breaker. St. Andrew’s scored through a brace of goals from Shimona Saldanha and one from Lynn Sharmai in regulation time. Only Shimona was successful in the penalty shootout for the Bandra girls.
