New Delhi: Shillong Lajong FC registered their first win of the year as they beat Indian Arrows 1-0 to move up a place in the points table with 14 points from nine games in the I-League football tournament in Shillong on Monday, even as East Bengal stayed atop the table with a 1-1 draw against Churchill Brothers in Goa.
The match-winner in Shillong came in the 80th minute when Ivory Coast international Abdoulaye Koffi found the ball at his feet in the box which he volleyed in neatly.
Chennai face Neroca
Hosts Chennai City will look for three points against Neroca in Coimbatore on Tuesday.
Chennai lost 1-2 in their away leg earlier in the season.
“We have a specific strategy for the opposition team and we have the support of playing on our home ground.
“In Imphal, we lost the match as we missed many chances and a penalty kick. Now we know our mistakes and we will go all out tomorrow,” said Chennai coach V. Soundararajan.
Chennai are eighth in the standings with two wins and two draws. Striker Jean-Micheal Joachim is their star, with five goals he is jointly tied at top of the scoring charts with East Bengal’s Katsumi Yusa and Mohun Bagan’s Aser Dipanda Dicka. Neroca have only lost one game in seven matches and are third in the standings. They are unbeaten in their last six games.
