Fleet Footers, Maryland United make a positive start

Benjamin Zolar stunned the Maryland citadel scoring the opening goal in the 10th minute to give Friends FC a 1-0 half-time lead.

Defending champions Fleet Footers FC made a positive start defeating new comers Gorai FC 1-0 in the opening Group-A league match of the 3rd Borivali Premier Football League (BPFL) at the St. Francis D’Assisi High School ground, Borivali.

In a well-contested match played under steady rain, prolific scorer Tushar Poojary netted the lone goal in the 10th minute which helped Fleet Footers pocket the full three points.

In the second match, Colin Abranches struck a brace of goals which enabled Maryland United recover from an early deficit to overcome Friends Sports Club by a 3-1 margin. Benjamin Zolar stunned the Maryland citadel scoring the opening goal in the 10th minute to give Friends FC a 1-0 half-time lead.

But Maryland United produced a solid second half display drew level when Christopher Fernandes scored in the 41st minute before Abranches scored in the 60th and 71st minutes to seal their win.
