St Andrews girls cruise into RFYS semi-finals

In the quarter final played at the Somaiya Hospital ground, Sion, Naomi Oscar Fernandes (three goals) and Florian Stephen Periera (two goals) led the charge for St Andrews.

St Andrews College stormed into the school girls’ semi-finals of the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports football tournament with an easy 5-0 victory over Smt Mithibai Motiram Kundnani (MMK) College of Commerce.

In the quarter final played at the Somaiya Hospital ground, Sion, Naomi Oscar Fernandes (three goals) and Florian Stephen Periera (two goals) led the charge for St Andrews.

Naomi, who was declared player of the match, scored her goals in the fourth, 31st and 52nd minute, while Florian struck in the 5th and 29th minute for the winners who led 4-0 at the break.

Meanwhile, in the junior league, St Francis D’Assisi School and Junior College, Borivali and Vasant Vihar School and Junior College, Thane cruised to emphatic victories. While St Francis D’Assisi downed Chatrabhuj Narsee Memorial School 3-0, Vasant Vihar handed out a 4-0 drubbing to St Xavier’s High School and Junior College, Bhandup.

 Larren Fernandes (27th minute), Harsh Dhewale (40th minute) and Khushal Makwana (55th minute) were the goal getters for St Francis D’Assisi, who led 1-0 at the breather.

Vasant Vihar claimed the first-half honours with Dhruv Kapoor’s 26th minute strike before consolidating their position by pumping in three more goals in the second session. Tanishq Jadhav (46th), Dheeraj Mundhada (49th minute) and Amitesh Koderi (53rd minute) were the goal getters for the winners.
