Riya Pillai makes to quarters

Riya Pillai of Mumbai Suburban district eased into quarters with an easy 21-3, 21-3 win over Anagha Karandikar also of Mumbai Suburban district. While the Pune duo of Shruti Mundada and Revathi Devasthale endured strong challenges to enter the women’s singles quarter-finals, in the Khar Gymkhana-MBA Senior Inter District & Senior Open State Badminton Championship on Friday.

Shruti overcame Shilpi Pusadkar of Nashik 21-10, 21-12, while Revathi halted Anjali Kshirsagar of Nagpur 21-14, 21-13 in close encounters that also saw Mrunmayee Deshpande of Thane rally to a hard-fought 17-21, 21-11, 21-15 win over Mrunmayi Saoji of Nagpur.

Top seed Neha Pandit of Pune led the other favourites into the quarter-finals where she was joined by compatriot Mudra Dhainje, Vaishnavi Iyer of Mumbai Suburban and second seed Vaishnavi Bhale of Nagpur.
