Ruthvika wins Tata Open title, Lakshya loses in final

Ruthvika got the better of Riya in straight games 21-12, 23-21 after a battle of 37 minutes.

Ruthvika won the opening game easily, and then saved three game points in the second before putting it across a younger and fighting opponent.

Gadde Ruthvika Shivani won the Women’s Singles title in the tenth edition of the Tata Open India International Challenge after beating Riya Mukherjee in the final. Thai shuttler Sitthikom Thammasin rallied to win the Men’s Singles title defeating Lakshya Sen 15-21, 21-14, 21-19 from India at Cricket Club of India.

Ruthvika got the better of Riya in straight games 21-12, 23-21 after a battle of 37 minutes. Ruthvika won the opening game easily, and then saved three game points in the second before putting it across a younger and fighting opponent.

“This year’s Tata Open has been a great tournament for me as I am playing after a gap year. It feels great to have won against Riya, but the second set proved to be a turning point for me. The win at Tata Open will help me boost my ranking as I am preparing for the next tournaments,” Ruthvika said.
