Mangaonkar wins Maha Open Squash tourney

Abhishek's failure to convert crucial points led him to a similar fate in the third game which he again lost 10-12.

Mahesh Mangaonkar of Mumbai will be one of the challengers in Vedanta Indian Squash Open.

Mumbai: Top seed Mahesh Mangaonkar of Mumbai warmed up for the Asian Games with a title win in the Maharashtra State Men’s Squash tournament here on Friday. Meeting his childhood friend Abhishek Pradhan in the final after a gap of eight years, the India No. 3 resisted stiff challenge to win 11-8, 12-10, 12-10.

Mahesh had it relatively easy in the first game but the second game was more competitive with fortunes swinging back and forth, leading  upto 10-10 but Mahesh stepped up and managed to score those crucial two points to win the game 12-10 and take a 2-0 lead in the best of 5 match title clash.

Abhishek’s failure to convert crucial points led him to a similar fate in the third game which he again lost 10-12. Mangaonkar ensured that he did not drop a game in the tournament before he heads to Chennai to join the Asian Games training camp.
