The athletes facilitated the overall performance by winning almost half the gold medals, besides silver medals from very promising young athletes.

Mumbai: Chirag Shetty participated in the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games just after recovering from severe back injury but still managed to bag a doubles silver medal and a mixed team gold.

He has played in several tournaments since then including the recent BWF World Championships in China.

He is fully fit now and raring to go at the Asian Games along with his men’s doubles partner Satwiksairaj Rankireddy.

Shetty has won five international titles and a silver at the CWG with Satwik.

“Before CWG I had a severe back problem, I didn’t practice almost 10 days before tournament. Only a day before the tournament I resumed training,” he said.

The duo defeated Olympic bronze medallists Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge in the first round of the World Championships.

“We came from World Championships on Sunday. I think our attack is our strong point. Satwik is one of the finest hitters in the world and has lethal smashes,” Shetty said.

The Mumbai lad was positive about their chances at the Asian Games. “The draw is tough. If we play like we have been playing in the first quarter of 2018, I think we can win a medal even in the men’s team event,” he said.

The 21-year-old said they didn’t get enough time to prepare for the Asian Games but hopeful of good show at the Games.
