Medals galore for state in table tennis Nationals

Maharashtra's players starred in other categories too, bringing home three more bronze medals.

Maharashtra completed a near clean sweep in the junior girls’ category of the National Ranking TT Championships (North Zone), with Swastika Ghosh, Manushree Patil, and Diya Chitale winning three medals here on Wednesday.

Swastika claimed the singles gold, beating statemate Manushree 4-2 in a closely-fought final. Earlier, she got the better of Diya Chitale in the semi-final. Manushree and Diya picked up the silver and the bronze, respectively, for their efforts.

Maharashtra’s players starred in other categories too, bringing home three more bronze medals.

Sanil Shetty, representing PSPB, assured himself of the coveted medal in the men’s singles by beating Anthony Amalraj 4-3 in the quarters. He missed out on a place in the finals, losing to eventual champion Manav Thakkar 2-4 in the semis.

Madhurika Patkar too had a similar run in the Women’s Singles, before losing to Manika Batra 1-4 in the semifinals.

Shruti Amrute annexed one more bronze medal for Maharashtra in the Youth Girl’s Singles.
