Maiden pro title for Madappa

At 20 years and nine months, Madappa became the youngest Indian pro to win an international title.

New Delhi: A little over a year after turning professional, golfer Viraj Madappa won his maiden professional title at the Take Solutions Masters on the Asian Tour, in Bengaluru on Sunday.

At 20 years and nine months, Madappa became the youngest Indian pro to win an international title, beating the previous best by Gaganjeet Bhullar, who was 21 years and three months, when he won the Indonesia Invitational. Shubhankar Sharma was 21 years and five months old when he won Joburg Open.

Madappa carded 4-under 67 to get to 16-under, while four players, Zimbabwe’s Scott Vincent (68), Argentina’s Miguel Carballo (71) and the Thai duo Suradit Yongcharenchai (66) and Danthai Boonma (70) shared the second place at 14-under. S.S.P. Chawrasia (70), who went into shared lead on Sunday, was tied 6th along with Honey Baisoya (70) and local hope, Khalin Joshi (72).
