Golf: Chawrasia makes cut, Sharma misses out
Four-time European Tour winner and twice Hero Indian Open champion Chawrasia was two-under 142 for 36 holes and Tied-33rd.
New Delhi: S.S.P. Chawrasia produced a three-under 69 to make the cut while Shubhankar Sharma managed to add only a par 72 to his first round 73 to miss out in the NBO Oman Open in Muscat on Friday.
Four-time European Tour winner and twice Hero Indian Open champion Chawrasia was two-under 142 for 36 holes and Tied-33rd.
Chawrasia was happy with his comeback at the Al Mouj course, hosting an European Tour event for the first time. He had a birdie against two bogeys on his out nine before draining a 15-footer for birdie on a par-5. “That changed the momentum... All the four birdies that I had on my second nine were 12 feet and over. Then came the 30-footer on eighth, my 17th, to make it three-under.”
Frenchman Mattheu Pavon put himself in an excellent position as a second-round 65 moved him to 11-under for a two-shot lead over England’s Matthew Southgate.
Aditi falters
In Adelaide, Aditi Ashok missed the cut in the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open with a second successive 76 at the Kooyonga Golf Club. At eight-over 152, she was way off as the cut fell at 3-over 147. For a second consecutive day, Jin Young Ko dominated with a three-under 69 to build a three-shot lead over Emma Taley of Australia.
