Avneet Sidhu on target at WPFG Games

Two members of Punjab Police, including Olympian and ace shooter Avneet Sidhu, have won six medals in the ongoing World Police and Fire Games at Los Angeles, USA.

Sidhu clinched one gold, one silver and two bronze medals in different rifle shooting competitions, a press release issued by the Punjab government said on Wednesday. Sidhu is a deputy superintendent of police.

Assistant inspector general Ashish Kapoor won two golds, winning in both singles and doubles tennis titles. It was the fifth consecutive time since 2009 that Kapoor has won at least a medal in the games. In 2009 in Vancouver, Kapoor won the bronze in tennis singles.

At New York in 2011 he got a silver whereas in Belfast, Ireland, in 2013 and Fairfax, USA, in 2015, he won gold medals. The WPFG games started from August 7. They are held every two years where officers or officials from police and fire departments from all over the world compete in different events.

Over 12,000 participants from across the world participated in the sports and fire fighting events this year.

Sidhu had won one gold and a silver in the 18th Commonwealth Games 2006 at Melbourne, Australia, and a bronze at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar.
