Anup will now be leading U-Mumba in their campaign against Puneri Paltan on the first day of Pro Kabbadi League 2017.
Anup Kumar, the 33-year old raider, who led India to Kabbadi World Cup victory in 2016, says he feels happy that he is compared to cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni for his calm behaviour while in the game.
Anup will now be leading U-Mumba in their campaign against Puneri Paltan on the first day of Pro Kabbadi League 2017.
“Being compared to a player like Dhoni is an honor for me. He is a star player and being a kabbadi player, it feels great to be in the same league as a top cricketer. I just stay calm and focused on the pitch and that is how I have been playing since day one,” says the skipper who confesses that he has an
aggressive personality off the pitch.
The skipper discusses the addition of new players to the Mumbai franchise this season as he says, “It is how the game is. We keep forming new bonds with new teams. And this season this will be our new team, our new family.”
“Our strength is our offense with players Shabeer Bappu, Nitin Madane and our new addition Shrikhant Jadhav. I have played for many teams and Mumbai has given me the same amount of love. I have never felt that I am not in my hometown,” says Anup who is also the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Haryana.
As Kumar was asked about the shortcoming that happened in the previous season he asserts, “We have not planned anything because that is something which we do just before the match. The team has worked hard and we are united with confidence to take on the challenges that come this season.”
