Maharashtra men, women bag bronze at National Rugby Championship

Among the women, Rutuja Bapurao Kirdat from Satara was amongst the top three try scorers in the championship.

A total of 25 states and affiliated Units (SSCB) participated in this championship.

Maharashtra’s men and women’s rugby teams secured bronze in the Senior National Rugby Sevens Championship 2018 held at Punjab University, Chandigarh.

In the hardline matches for third and fourth position in both categories, the Maharashtra men’s team defeated West Bengal 17-5, while the women’s team beat Bihar 10-5 and secured bronze medals in the championship.

Kolhapur’s Akshay Vharambale was the top try men’s scorer in the tournament with a total of nine tries. he was followed by Bharat Rathod, who scored seven tries in the tournament.

Among the women, Rutuja Bapurao Kirdat from Satara was amongst the top three try scorers in the championship.
