Gabriella wins singles title, stops Diana from double crown

British teenager Gabriella Taylor prevailed over Latvian opponent Diana Marcinkevica after around two hours and thirty minutes of gruelling battle to win the singles title of International Tennis Federation's (ITF) International Women's Tennis Championship. The week long event worth $25,000 prize money ended at Ganesh Naik Tennis Complex, Navi Mumbai Sports Association, Vashi on Saturday.

Qualifier Gabriella rallied to win the final 4-6, 7-6 (7), 6-3 and ended unseeded Diana's chance for a double crown. Earlier in the tournament Diana had won the doubles title in company of Georgina Garcia-Perez of Spain. The winning pair had defeated Indian Pranjala Yadlapali and her Slovenia partner Tamara Zidansek by 6-0, 6-1 in the final to lift the doubles title.

Diana had also ended Indian No 1 Ankita Raina's dream run in the semi-finals by clinching the match 6-4, 6-4 after 87 minutes of play. Ankita had ousted Indian Rutuja Bhosale in the first round and Russian Ekaterina Yashina in the second round. She later prevailed over India No 2 Karman Kaur Thandi in the quarter-finals 7-5, 7-5 after two hours and eight minutes of play.
