CES 2018: L'Oreal launches wearable tech that helps protect skin
The UV sense tracks your sunlight exposure when you fix it on your nail.
The 21st century is witnessing all sorts of technological development. Who would have dreamt of a UV sense device, which one could fix on their nails and detect their skin’s sunlight exposure.
With L’Oreal launching a wearable tech piece which could help protect you from skin cancer at CES 2018, nothing seems to be impossible. The brand has developed a battery-free wearable that measures UV exposure, being the first of its kind.
The users will be able to take a photo of the patch and upload it on the mobile app which will then analyse the varying photosensitive dye squares to determine the amount of UV exposure the wearer has received. It works with an app, available for both iOS and Android, which syncs and translates the data from the sensor using NFC. The collected data allows users to determine when they should be mindful of UV exposure. The tiny electronic sensor can be worn either on fingernail or any other item which one wears that is exposed to sunlight. Fashionably designed, the device can be disguised as nail art. It is reusable and re-adhesive.
A global launch of the device is expected in 2019. The L'Oreal UV Sense is expected to be available only through dermatologists this year. Pricing isn't finalised, however L'Oreal hopes to price around $40 (approximately Rs 2,500) or less.
