Playstation CEO reveals what making of new PS5 is like
The console maker is planning on making some big changes for the launch and making of its upcoming PlayStation 5.
Playstation CEO Jim Ryan has revealed in a recent interview with news portal Games Industry that the console maker is planning on making some big changes for the launch and making of its upcoming PlayStation 5.
While the Playstation 4 saw huge success, with over 100 million units sold it is Sony’s next product in the line that everyone’s keen to know more about now. Slated to release towards ‘Holiday’ or the end of 2020, Ryan has revealed that one of their main tasks for the new product will be ‘to take that community and transition it from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5 and at a scale and pace that we’ve never delivered on before’.
This sounds quite intriguing and makes us wonder what the details of the product will be along with its price, targeting, as well as its compatibility. Upon that Ryan further elaborates, “That process, this time around, has been massively more streamlined compared to anything we’ve done in the past. The product planners are now having one conversation instead of three different regional conversations, where they needed to reconcile positions that were often conflicting or contradictory, with an endless process of iteration and consensus. That’s not happening anymore. We have one conversation, and we get on and do stuff.”
So far, we’ve known that the PS5 hardware will have an update with the replacement of its current rumble technology and new ‘adaptive triggers’, giving a better but customisable (for developers) immersive experience. Other things previously reported have been lower power consumption, PS4 backward compatibility, 8K gaming support and the use of internal super-fast SSD’s.
But Ryan’s interview also shared what’s happening on yet another end of the PS5’s development, i.e the developers and various publishers. "One thing that makes me particularly optimistic that what we're hearing from developers and publishers, is the ease in which they can get code running on PlayStation 5 is way beyond any experience they've had on any other PlayStation platform,” he said.
For now, this is all we know about the new PS5. We expect more to come as the developments take place, until then we're keeping our eyes peeled.
