Patent reveals Apple's intentions to make keyboards dustproof
The patent reveals several ideas that can help Apple develop keyboards for preventing dust ingress.
If a computer belongs to your life’s daily necessities, then you may be very well aware that maintaining its keyboard is a hectic challenge. Desktop computers in homes or offices are left at their own mercy, with their keyboards gathering dust. Very often, they are also subjected to accidental liquid spills, which work together with dust to corrode the button mechanisms and deteriorate it eventually over the course of time. Apple is also worried about this issue and it seems they have some bright ideas to get around this issue.
A recently discovered patent by The Verge reveals that Apple is trying several new designs for the buttons on its keyboards to make its keyboard contamination-proof. The designs in the patent document show some kind of membrane covering the mechanicals of the keys. The arrangement is such that the keys can stand up to everyday dust and water abuse without hampering the performance the keys.
The patent, however, was filed in 2016, which was when the new MacBooks had already been in the market for a considerable time. Since the patent was filed back in 2016, there’s a chance that we could be seeing one of these arrangements in future MacBook models. These kinds of debris-proof keyboards will be perfect for those who are on the move with their laptops and seldom get time to service them.
