Samsung releases first cellular IoT mobile device for multi-purpose tracking.

Samsung Electronics is all set to launch a smart tag that uses an NB- IoT network. The Connect Tag uses narrowband network technology (NB-IoT, Cat.M1) which uses lesser data, consumes less data and securely connects to the internet for optimal location services. The Connect Tag syncs with GPS, WiFi-based positioning, and cell ID for tracking the location and provides location information with both indoors and out. It can also be synced with smart home appliances to turn on the light, TV, or the robot cleaner when close to home.

The geo-fence feature on the Samsung Connect Tag will notify the user’s chosen smart devices when they are nearby. It also offers features to minimise anxiety and increase usability. An on-demand function will allow requesting any Connect Tag’s location when desired, simply by pressing a button on the smartphone.

The device is quite small and compact at 1.19cm thick and 4.21cm wide. It’s also dust and waterproof. The Tag is clubbed with a battery that is expected to last for up to seven days on a single charge. The Connect Tag will be initially sold in Korea before rolling out to other countries over the next few months.
