Xiaomi launches Redmi Note 8 series, full specs and details inside

Xiaomi launched the Redmi note 8 series of smartphones today at an event in New Delhi. Rolling out smartphones Redmi note 8, Redmi note 8 pro and the MIUI11, the company said in a statement that it looks to disrupt the smartphone segment all over again.

Redmi Note 8 will be available in 6GB + 64GB and 6GB + 128GB storage variants for Rs 9,999 and Rs 12,999 respectively. Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 8 Pro will be available in 6GB + 64GB, 6GB + 128GB and 8GB + 128GB storage variants for Rs 14,999, Rs 15,999 and Rs 17,999 respectively. 

Both smartphones go on sale from the 21st October at 12 noon, available at Mi Home stores, e-commerce website Amazon and on Mi’s website as well. The Mi Home, Mi Studio, Mi Stores, Mi Preferred Partners and all retail chains will also have them. 

Below are the specifications of the products the company launched today.

Redmi Note 8 Pro

Poised as an affordable smartphone with a good camera and processor, the phone runs on a Helio G90T chipset and has a 64 MP camera. Apart from these two, another note-worthy feature of the phone is its ‘Dual Wake’ feature, which allows the handset to interact with both Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa simultaneously.

Outside, the body of the phone features a full HD+ 16.5cm (6.53 inches) Dot Notch display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, made of Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The rear facade of Redmi Note 8 Pro sports 3D curved glass, and together with it the phone is 8.8mm thick.

Running on a Helio G90T chipset, it features a 6+2 architecture comprising of six ARM Cortex-A-55 cores, clocked up to 2.0GHz, while two Cortex-A76 cores clock at 2.05GHz. This is further paired with a quad-core Mali G76 GPU clocked at a mighty 800MHz for better gaming experience.

Moreover, for better gaming the phone also has a liquid cool technology to reduce the system’s temperature and an additional WiFi X antenna to reduce interruptions.

It has a battery capacity of 4,500 mAh which supports 18W fast charging, right out of the box.

In a quad-camera set up the phone features a 64MP main camera, an ultra-wide angle lens with a 120-degree field of view, a depth sensor and a macro lens that allows you to go as close as 2cm to the subject. Xiaomi further mentioned that the main camera automatically triggers Super Pixel, thereby combining information from four pixels into one, giving users 16MP shots with  incredible details.

Redmi Note 8

Redmi Note 8 is an upgrade from the brand’s Note 7S.

Equipped with a 6.3” Dot Notch Display with Aura Fluid Design, the phone has a FHD+ display made of Corning Gorilla Glass 5. With a 90 per cent screen-to-body ratio, it’s screen is TÜV Rheinland-certified which will protect users’ eyes by filtering out blue light. 

Further about the body, it has a P2i’s nano-coating making it splash-resistant.

At the back the quad camera set up has a 48MP ultra high-resolution primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera with 120° field of view, 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor.

On the front, it has a 13MP selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture and built-in AI technology. The front camera also includes a panorama selfie feature that can capture group images without cropping anyone out.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 665 mobile platform offers great performance while maintaining power efficiency, backed by a 4000mAh battery with 18W charging over Type-C out of the box.

MIUI 11

MIUI 11 significantly upgrades the design element and brings a new set of features to Redmi’s custom user interface. With a Dark Mode, it helps make power-efficient use of AMOLED screen capabilities and adds new customizations to the ‘Always-on display’. It carries new ambient nature sounds for notifications too.

Xiaomi also announced the Mint Keyboard for MIUI users, which supports over 25 Indian languages currently. Utility features such as wireless file sharing, wireless printing, working with documents, and managing tasks are now available out-of-the-box along with a step counter, period tracker, and calculator.

Stable MIUI 11 will be rolled out in a phased manner starting with Redmi K20, POCO F1, Redmi Note 7, Redmi 7, and Redmi Y3 starting October end. Other models will be upgraded later in the year and the rollout plan will be updated on Mi Community, the Chinese smartphone brand said.

Mi Air Purifier 2C

Apart from phones, Xiaomi also launched the ‘Mi Air Purifier 2C’ at a price of Rs 6,499. Starting today, it will be available on its website, e-commerce sites Flipkart, Amazon and in offline stores including Mi Homes.

HEPA air filter powered, the device has dual filtration technology, which includes a primary filter that takes care of the large particles and a HEPA filter that eliminates up to 99.97 per cent of small particles (up to 0.3 micron). It has a high CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) of 310m³/h allowing clean air circulation for a 21m2 room in just 10 minutes, claims Xiaomi.
