Your Nintendo Switch can now be turned into a better, more versatile device with an Android OS port. The folks over at XDA have made an unofficial build of popular custom rom LineageOS 15.1 which should get you stock android with a couple of additional features on your Switch.

The port sort of turns your device into an Nvidia Shield-like device and the developers say that an official release is on the way. Keep in mind that the ‘official’ tag is for the rom itself and not the device, i.e. Nintendo doesn’t support the build and unless you know your way around custom roms, you shouldn’t  venture in this are either.

The build isn’t perfect yet and there are drawbacks which are again clearly mentioned on the XDA forum page. While Joy-Con controllers still work, you will need Bluetooth connectivity, and audio is currently functional. However the battery life takes a hit and the screen cannot be turned off in docked mode.

If you’re still up for the port, head over to the XDA page for the release and detailed instructions here.
