Nostalgia is one of the strongest driving forces in gaming these days. One only needs to look as far as Super Meat Boy and Fez to see the appeal that games running on classic platforming mechanics resonates tremendously among the gamers, both young and old. However, nothing pulls at the heartstrings more than the thought of playing the age old classic DOS based games of days gone by like Wolfenstein 3D, Golden Age, Lion King and Prince of Persia.
The problem is that playing these games requires one to fiddle around with the DOS console settings, a skill set that your average gamer, looking for a trip down nostalgia lane, will not possess. Therefore, while a lot of classic console games are playable on the PC with the help of emulators, DOS games, have thus far been only the bragging rights of those who are rather tech savvy.
Fear no more, Jason Scott’s EM-DOSBOXis an emulation tool you can download and use to play over 2000 DOS based games on your system. The difference is that the DOSBOX does not require any emulation knowledge on your part. All you need to do is search for the game you wish to play, click on it and have a blast. Seeing as how the Emulator is still in beta, you may encounter a few minor bugs, but all in all it is a fantastic tool and a must have for the fans of classic DOS-based games.
