The internet satellites will use Ka-band frequencies like the ones Iridium is using in its satellites.

It appears that Amazon is in a rush to deploy its thousands of internet satellites and the company has requested the FCC permission to launch 3,236 satellites as a part of its Project Kuiper. As per a report by Engadget, the spacecraft would be grouped in 98 orbital planes and soar at altitudes between 366 and 391 miles. With this filing, Amazon wants to connect tens of millions of people around the world.

The internet satellites will use Ka-band frequencies like the ones Iridium is using in its satellites. Amazon is requesting for a clearance to employ anti-interference technology and the company is also aware of the issue with space debris. Amazon claims that the satellites would deorbit themselves whether or not they were in contact with Earth.

The report states, “Amazon didn't mention a timeline for putting the satellites into orbit. However, the FCC filing shows that it has been thinking about this plan for a while. Whether or not it's timely is another story. SpaceX is already launching its first broadband satellites and plans roughly three times as many. Although it will take years for satellite constellations like these to roll out, there's a concern that Amazon might already be at a disadvantage.”
