Oreo 8.1 update reportedly fails to sync Android's contacts
All Android smartphones on Oreo 8.1 are unable to sync contacts from Google account.
The world of Android has only started to warm up to Android 8.0 Oreo and Google has already rolled out the first major update to the platform in the form of Oreo 8.1. as with all new versions of operating systems, Oreo 8.1 has its fair share of unknown bugs and the first one has been discovered off late by some users. Oreo 8.1 doesn’t synchronise contacts from Google’s backup properly.
Based on a report from Android Police, certain Pixel, as well as Nexus owners, are experiencing an erratic sync in contacts. The phones that are running the latest version of Android are not able to synchronise contacts with Google’s cloud backup. Some are reporting that the Oreo 8.1 update has introduced this anomaly whereas others are reportedly experiencing the issue since the Oreo 8.0 update.
Note that the issue has been reported by only select smartphones running on the latest update. If you are one of the few unlucky ones, then certain users have been trying the following method — clear the app data for the Contact Storage app. Google is also trying to fix the issue and will roll out a patch as soon as possible.
