Samsung has unveiled world’s first modular MicroLED 146-inch 4K TV, dubbed as 'The Wall' at CES 2018 in Las Vegas. “The Wall” boasts a module-based, bezel-less design, so that users can customise the size and shape depending on the needs.

The 146-inch TV takes advantage of the new MicroLED technology featured in “The Wall,” that eliminates the need for colour filters or backlight. The new technology is different from LED and OLED and is said to be more efficient. Besides, Sony in 2012 introduced a 55-inch MicroLED TV but a commercial product was never launched in the market.

“As the world’s first consumer modular MicroLED television, ‘The Wall’ represents another breakthrough,” said Jonghee Han, President of Visual Display Business, Samsung Electronics. “It can transform into any size and delivers incredible brightness, colour gamut, colour volume and black levels. We’re excited about this next step along our roadmap to the future of screen technology, and the remarkable viewing experience it offers to consumers.”

The company has not yet revealed the price and availability of the modular TV. According to Variety, Samsung is planning to commercially sell the device sometime this year. Besides, the South Korean giant also introduced its new Q9S 85-inch 8K QLED TV that comes packed with artificial intelligence (AI) to convert low-resolution content to 8K. The company’s new 8K QLED TV will be seen competing with LG’s OLED line-up.
