WhatsApp on Android and iOS gets new features

The features have been available on the beta builds for some time and are now available on stable builds on both Android and iOS.

In its latest update, popular messenger app WhatsApp has rolled out two new features to both Android and iOS users for its stable or public build. The first feature brings in the Picture-in-Picture mode for video calling and the second one brings text-only status updates.

The Picture-in-Picture mode will enable users to multitask while doing video calls. Users will able to resize the video calling window, whether they make a video call or receive a video call. This feature could be helpful if you are on a video call with one contact and want to initiate a chat with another contact or view pictures. The feature is currently available for both iOS and Android users.

The second feature is the ability to put text as your status update. prior to this, users could only update photos as a status updates. With this update, you will now be able to write your favourite quotes on a colourful background of your choice in the font you like. This feature is also available on both Android and iOS platforms.

However, both of these features have been available on the beta version of WhatsApp for some months (read here). The features have been now rolled out to the public or stable build that you find on the PlayStore or the App Store.
