Xiaomi's first Indian Mi Home opens in Bengaluru
The Chinese tech giant plans to open another 100 Mi Stores in other major cities within two years.
Xiaomi has pulled off the curtains from its first Mi Home store in the Indian subcontinent. The company has launched its first Mi Home store in the city of Bengaluru today.
The Mi Store is Xiaomi’s new strategy of “Internet+” and “new retail” approach — combining the Internet efficiency of e-commerce with the service and user experience of offline retail. The Mi Home stores are Xiaomi’s exclusive offline retail stores that allow Mi fans to experience and purchase Xiaomi’s latest products under one roof. The Mi Home Store in Bengaluru will open its doors to the public from 20th May 2017.
Speaking at the launch, Manu Jain, Vice President, Xiaomi and Managing Director, Xiaomi India said, “We are extremely excited to announce the first ever Mi Home in India, marking yet another important milestone in Xiaomi’s India journey. We are using the lessons learnt from operating a very successful and lean online channel to offline retail via our Mi Home stores.” Xiaomi believes that it can extend its reach across the smartphone market through its Mi Stores and will make Xiaomi products “readily available” to their customers.
Xiaomi plans to open 100 more Mi Stores in metro cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai within the next two years. Some Mi Home stores will also have an experience zone where fans can get closer to the large portfolio of products from Xiaomi.
The Mi Store will shelf smartphones, power banks, headphones, fitness bands, air purifiers as well as other ecosystem products from Xiaomi launched in India. Consumers will be able to book their Xiaomi devices in advance by paying a booking amount, post which they will be able to collect their devices from the Mi Home store. As for Bengaluru’s Mi Home, consumers will have the option to pre-book a Xiaomi smartphone from Xiaomi’s India website by paying an advance payment of Rs 1,000 and collect their devices from the store when it opens for the public.
