4 Platforms creating awareness for climate change at grassroot level

The issue of water crisis is scary. According to the Composite Water Management Index (CWMI) report released by the Niti Aayog in 2018, 21 major cities (Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and others) are racing to reach zero groundwater levels by 2020, affecting access for 100 million people.

The generation ahead needs to be apprised and taught about environmental sustainability and water conservation. Most of us consider water shortage a “government problem”. It’s time to accept that the government can do little unless we as a society take charge.

Amidst critical conversation around climate change and water crisis, India’s entrepreneurial brigade has taken charge to educate the public of implications and opting for greener solutions.

Chennai-based WEGoT has developed a platform that integrates three resources that all households use - water, electricity, and gas which helps measure, manage and conserve them easily. It’s water management digital platform captures and shares real-time data on daily water usage patterns with clients, incentivizing them to save water over time.

Simply Smart Technologies

Founded in Pune, this company allows smart metering of water consumption. It offers solutions for hostels, societies, townships, and commercial buildings to save water and electricity. The Pune-based startup's smart water meters help gather data from multiple water meters and send it to the cloud server.

Uravu Labs

Uravu Labs, a Bengaluru-based startup, is addressing India’s water crisis in its own limited way. They have developed a solar thermal-based device called Aquapanel to produce drinking water from air.
