Apple's most powerful iMac Pro now available in the US
Report says the 8-core and 10-core models will be available on December 14th and the higher core won't be available until later in 2018.
iMac Pro touted as the most powerful Mac Apple has made so far, will be available for purchase starting December 14, 2017, in the US. The high-end Mac will be available at a starting price of $4,999(approximately Rs 3,22,400).
The iMac pro was first unveiled at WWDC 2017 in June and sports a 27-inch Retina 5K display that is already available with the existing 27-inch iMac but bears major improvements.
Unlike the original iMac variants that feature a quad-core processor, this new space gray desktop is the first to sport 8-core, 10-core and 18-core variants, making it easily the most powerful Mac computer on the market. The new iMac will also come with up to 128GB of RAM and 4TB of storage. Moreover, there is also an option to pick up to 64GB and 128GB RAM. The iMac Pro also comes with a new dual centrifugal fan system that generates more airflow, the company said.
“Pros love iMac. So when they asked us to build them a killer iMac, we went all in. And then we went way, way beyond, creating an iMac packed with the most staggeringly powerful collection of workstation-class graphics, processors, storage, memory, and I/O of any Mac ever,” Apple said.
According to a report by 9to5Mac, the 8-core and 10-core models will be available for order on December 14th and the higher core won’t be available until later in 2018.
In terms of graphics, the new Mac has the Radeon Pro Vega 56 GPU that by default comes with 8GB of HBM2 memory on the base model, going up to Radeon Pro Vego 64 GPU with 16GB of HBM2 memory.
At the event, the company said that it is ready finally ready to embrace Virtual Reality and would evidently be a key player in the creation of said VR content.
“With the new Vega GPU, iMac Pro lets you do more than just immerse yourself in VR worlds,” the company wrote.
The connectivity options include a 3.5mm headphone jack, four Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports, four USB 3 ports, SDXC card slot with support for UHS-II and an Ethernet port with data transfer support of up to 10GB. The iMac Pro also comes with Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth v4.2. Additionally, the new iMac Pro comes in a Space Gray paint job.
