Apple Watch has saved yet another life, this time of a man who was stuck hundreds of feet away from shore. The device’s SOS mode came to his rescue after he was knocked off his jet ski.
Philip Esho was “hundreds of feet from shore” in Lake Michigan where he was knocked off his jet ski by a huge wave while he was riding from the 31st Street Harbor to McCormick Place to take pictures of the Chicago skyline, and in the knock, he had lost his phone. This is when his Apple Watch came in handy and proved to be a life-saver.
Speaking to WBBM NewsRadio, Esho said, “Apple Watch has an emergency call feature which allowed him to reach 911 but he wasn’t sure if the call worked because he couldn’t understand what the dispatcher was saying and at one point the call was disconnected.”
He was able to reconnect with 911 but by then he says a helicopter and Chicago police and fire boats had already arrived to rescue him. Esho credited the Apple Watch for saving his life under such circumstances where he was not sure what would have happened if he wasn’t able to use his Apple Watch to call 911 for help.
