Facebook acquires tbh' reportedly for $100 million
tbh was launched in August has been reportedly being sold for $100 million.
Facebook has been acquiring various players in the mobile app segment in the last few years and the latest member to join the likes of Instagram and WhatsApp is tbh. A relatively unknown name in this part of the globe, tbh has been in existence for only a few months in the west on iOS and has garnered 5 million downloads for its primary feature — the ability to send honest compliments to friends anonymously.
According to TechCrunch, Facebook has reportedly paid $100 million for acquiring tbh, although the company hasn’t given out any details. “tbh and Facebook share a common goal — of building community and enabling people to share in ways that bring us closer together. We're impressed by the way tbh is doing this by using polling and messaging, and with Facebook's resources tbh can continue to expand and build positive experiences,” said Facebook to The Verge in a statement.
tbh stands for ‘to be honest’ and help spread positive compliments to an individuals network of friends. Users can choose from a set of pre-selected compliments and carry polls on it, with names of four friends as options. For example, you can choose questions like — “the most intelligent guy out of these is”, followed by names of four friends.
The app can only include names of those who are actually using the app. The app has been seeing a considerable amount of success in the west and with Facebook acquiring the app, we can expect it to see the app on Android as well. We could even see parts of tbh’s feature implemented in the main Facebook app sometime in the future.
