The lab will include a broad range of Trimble's industry-leading software solutions.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has received a gift from Trimble to establish a state-of-the-art Technology Lab for architecture, engineering, construction (AEC). The lab will expand the institute’s leadership in training and research in 3D building design, digital fabrication and sustainable built environment. The gift also enables IIT Madras to integrate Trimble’s solutions across it curricula that are rapidly transforming how building and living environments are designed and constructed.

The Trimble Technology Lab will benefit students enrolled in the Institute’s Department of Civil Engineering, who will be able to experience Trimble solutions. Applications of these solutions range from the scanning of historic buildings for preservation, design and 3D printing of architectural building models, digital fabrication of custom-lab equipment to monitoring coastal erosion and implementing construction cost estimating and scheduling to improve productivity and reduce costs.

“Partnering with one of the leading engineering institutes in India is exciting. It will be rewarding to see the next generation of architecture, engineering, construction and operations’ professionals use advanced construction lifecycle solutions to further their education and build careers,” said Roz Buick, vice president, Trimble. “We also look forward to support and learn from these new professionals as they use our solutions for real-world applications.”

“We are very pleased to announce this state-of-the art technology lab through a gift from Trimble. Trimble’s software solutions are valuable throughout the construction lifecycle, from conceptual design to construction to operations and maintenance, and we are happy that the students will benefit greatly by getting a hands-on experience of Trimble’s cutting edge technology solutions,” said Dr. Ashwin Mahalingam, professor Civil Engineering, IIT Madras.

The lab will include a broad range of Trimble’s industry-leading software solutions such as RealWorks scanning software, Trimble Business Center, Vico Office Suite, GCEstimator Suite, Tekla Structures, Tekla Structural Designer, Tekla Tedds, Sefaira Architecture and its popular 3D modeling software, SketchUp Pro.
