US video game market soared high in 2017
While there were quite a few lauches last year, 2018 has started on an uncertain note.
The 90s was perhaps the last decade which saw a lot of video gaming arcades and parlours. Even though the way of approach might have changed now, the gaming market seems to be only soaring. According to a report by VentureBeat, the NPD group has studied the US gaming market, which has recorded a revenue growth of 18 per cent and earned around $36 billion last year.
NPD Group’s video game industry analyst, Mat Piscatella, commented on this tremendous growth in revenue and said, “2017 was a special year for the industry and for everyone who loves games. Developers created content that delighted gamers across all gaming platforms. From mobile to PC, and from console to virtual reality, growth was achieved because the passion of gamers was matched only by the talent of game makers.”
The performance of Nintendo Switch was perhaps one of the factors which triggered the growth; which was followed by the PS4 and the launch of the Xbox One X in the second half of the year.
With such steep rise in the numbers, it will only be interesting to see if the same can be maintained in 2018.
