Windows 10 update causing crashes and bootloops
Several users report on Microsoft's forum about the update causing BSODs after installing on their systems.
Inconsistent updates often come up from Microsoft for its Windows PCs and Laptops. However, several reports have surfaced on a new update (which isn’t technically new) but was released in December. The reports suggest that this update has been causing issues to the users ever since.
The Windows 10 update KB4058043 was released on the systems running Fall Creators Update, it brought stable improvements to Microsoft Store and few fixes on the app update failures issues. This update also fixed unnecessary network requests as well.
Along with these added benefits, this update also brings a few issues to the users who are on Fall Creators Update. According to the reports posted on Microsoft’s Community forums, several users pointed out that the update KB4058043 caused BSODs (Blue Screen of Death) on their systems and eventually driving it to an unbootable state. However, Microsoft engineers have been replying to the user’s posts and providing suggestions on the issues.
“If you are unable to boot your device after installing an update, it could be that a component of Windows may have been damaged or corrupted. We recommend that you download and use an installation media to restore from a system restore point or reset your PC,” replied a Microsoft engineer in the forum’s post.
“It is possible that KB4058043 encountered compatibility issues with the current build of your PC. We apologise for the inconvenience that is caused by the update. Windows 10 may have not triggered this compatibility checker because KB4058043 is installed before your PC updates to the latest build. We'll rework how the compatibility checker runs, we'll do our best to prevent this issue from recurring.”
Microsoft hasn’t mentioned any fix regarding this issue as of now, but it would be better for the users to perform a backup before updating to this KB4058043 update. Without backup reinstalling Windows might only be the option for the users on Fall Creators Update.
