WhatsApp update lets you re-download deleted photos
The latest update to WhatsApp allows users to re-download deleted media from chats post accidental deletion from local storage.
How often have you accidentally deleted one of your most cherished photos from your phone’s gallery? It’s something that keeps on happening, given the abundance of data found on one’s smartphone, especially the media files from one’s WhatsApp albums. It seems that WhatsApp understands this and has now finally chosen to provide a solution to the issue. Yes, you can now have the option to retrieve a deleted media file sent via WhatsApp, even after you have deleted it from the device.
The latest version of WhatsApp has been seen giving users the option to retrieve their deleted media from WhatsApp. If you accidentally delete a media file from WhatsApp’s folder, then you can go back to the chat through which it was sent and tap on it to re-download the file. The media files are said to be stored on WhatsApp’s server for up to 30 days, post which they are erased. Users also need to know that if you end up deleting the chat, you lose out on this option as well. In short, you need to have your chat log in place in order to allow WhatsApp help you get back your data.
We tried it ourselves and it worked. WhatsApp notifies you of the availability of the data post deletion up to 30 days. Once you go back to the chat, you can re-download it from there. Do note that we were on WhatsApp version 2.18.142. If you aren’t seeing this feature yet, make sure that you have updated to the latest version of WhatsApp from the Google PlayStore.
