Chennai: Got a BSNL landline at home? Now you can get free internet. BSNL has launched a ‘Work@Home’ broadband plan for its landline customers, free of cost.

The ‘Work@Home’ plan offers up to 5GB of free internet a day at 10 Mbps speed after which the speed is reduced to 1 Gbps for further usage. It is an unlimited plan with no cap on uploads and downloads.

BSNL does not charge installation charges or any other monthly charges.

If you don’t own a BSNL landline connection, you could get a new connection and then avail of the free broadband offer. However, you will have to pay installation charges for the new connection and its monthly rent and other costs.

Apart from BSNL, ACT Fibernet has also stepped up to help people work from home by upgrading the speed of existing broadband connections up to 300 Mbps.

However, there have been no such offers from other private broadband internet providers such as Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea. In fact, it was recently reported that these companies are not equipped to handle the additional home internet usage burden as more people began working from home.

The average monthly broadband usage of 10.37 reported by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, was set to go up by 15 per cent, a newspaper reported. Without the government allocating additional spectrum to telecom companies to handle the rising traffic, internet speeds were likely to be affected, the report said.
