The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has chosen Apple CEO Tim Cook to deliver its 2017 commencement address.

Cupertino tech giant Apple is probably done with all the major announcements this year including its latest iPhone flagship, a brand-new, thinner and lighter MacBook Pro, an updated iOS 10 software and a couple of other new and exciting apps. However, what appears to have been missing in this perfect rollout of devices and software is the company’s desktop Mac. Many seemed to have believed that Apple has given up on the desktop Mac. There’s a message from Apple CEO Tim Cook for all those who believe this: Apple has great desktops in the roadmap.

Cook says the company’s commitment to desktop Mac computers remains strong, despite a glaring omission of the product line. Comments made by Tim Cook were posted to Apple’s internal employee message board, which were then obtained and verified by TechCrunch on 19 December. “The desktop is very strategic for us. It’s unique compared to the notebook because you can pack a lot more performance in a desktop – the largest screens, the most memory and storage, a great variety of I/O and fastest performance. So there are many different reasons why desktops are really important, and in some cases critical, to people,” Cook wrote.

“The current generation iMac is the best desktop we have ever made and its beautiful Retina 5K display is the best desktop display in the world. Some folks in the media have raised the question about whether we’re committed to desktops. If there’s any doubt about that with our teams, let me be very clear: we have great desktops in our roadmap. Nobody should worry about that,” he added.

What remains unclear is what exactly Cook seems to be referencing at – is it just the company’s iMac all-in-one line or if he also intended his statement to include the Mac mini and the Mac Pro.
