Here's why Apple removed the 3D touch app-switch gesture with iOS 11
With the new iOS 11, many users complained that switching between apps is not as easy as it was on iOS 10.
Apple recently rolled out its new operating system, the iOS 11 for its device. While the new operating system brought many new features to the table, there were some features from the previous version that couldn’t make it to the new OS.
With the new iOS 11, many users complained that switching between apps is not as easy as it was on iOS 10. While double pressing the home button still works to launch the multitasking view, Apple has removed the 3D Touch gesture that also allowed users to switch between apps.
The feature may not be popular among the users, but pressing on the left edge of the device launched a multitasking view that allows user to navigate through the recently used apps.
The feature stopped working after the iOS 11 update. While there are speculations that the feature was removed because it wasn’t used very often, but Apple’s iOS chief Craig Federighi himself explained why the feature is removed.
According to an email he sent to an iOS user, which was first reported by Apple blog MacRumors, the gesture was eliminated because of a "technical constraint," but it will be restored in a future update
Here's his response, as reported by MacRumors:
We regretfully had to temporarily drop support for this gesture due to a technical constraint. We will be bringing it back in an upcoming iOS 11.x update. Thanks (and sorry for the inconvenience)! - craig
Apple is yet to confirm what exactly the technical issue was or when the next patch or update will be rolled out.
