Twitter boosts security
Twitter supports two-factor authentication via third-party apps.
In an attempt to beef up its safety measures, Twitter is adding an extra layer of security. Twitter has announced that it is letting in third-party apps for the two-factor authentication to verify a user’s account.
The company announced the news with a tweet saying, “We’re rolling out an update to login verification. You’ll now be able to use a third party app for two-factor authentication, instead of SMS text messages.”
This means users can now use apps such as Google Authenticator, Authy, Duo Mobile or any such app already installed on the mobile device for verification as an alternative to SMS.
According to a popular tech-based web portal, the SMS based authentication uses static codes, which can be intercepted if the device is hacked. With their latest step, which links to other apps, the codes disappear in around 30 seconds, making it safer to verify accounts.
