A long lost or forgotten photograph tumbles out one fine day. The sudden discovery can usher in a mix of reactions — a flood of memories, joy and wonder. But all these can soon lapse back into a sigh the moment you find all its glory has been eaten away. What next? Rush to the digital photo restorer? Hold on, Google has something big in store to revive old photographs. The recent announcement is PhotoScan, a standalone app from the house of Google which can scan a photograph anywhere on your gizmo.

“PhotoScan gets you great looking digital copies in seconds — it detects edges, straightens the image, rotates it to the correct orientation, and removes glare. Scanned photos can be saved in one tap to Google Photos to be organised, searchable, shared, and safely backed up at high quality — for free,” Google writes on the blog.

The photo can be polished in three easy steps. Pick the pencil icon to start editing. Do auto enhance. Choose from any of the 12 new looks, which aligns the photo in right brightness, darkness, warmth, or saturation. Finally, get it fine tuned with a right mix of colour and light adjustments. That’s all folks!
