More than 400 million are WhatsApp users in India

This high user margin has made India the messenger's biggest market.

Just about two years ago, WhatsApp stated it had hit 200 million active monthly users in India. And as of now, the messaging app confirms it has more than doubled the number of users previously stated. More than 400 million are active WhatsApp users today in India. This high user margin has made India the messenger’s biggest market.

At a press conference in New Delhi, a WhatsApp spokesperson confirmed that the platform indeed had more than 400 million monthly active users in the country.

The rise of Jio has surely played a part in connecting India through digital means such as WhatsApp. Speaking of Jio, WhatsApp also supports KaiOS – the same OS which powers millions of JioPhone handsets in India. As per Counterpoint Research, India has about 450 million smartphone users, and it’s continuously on a rise.

Following all the highs in India, WhatsApp at the end of the year is going to introduce its payment service for its users called the ‘WhatsApp Pay.’ A serious competitor for the likes of Google Pay, Flipkart’s PhonePe and Paytm.
