BlackBerry prepares to release more secure version of Android

After the emergence of operating system Android and iOS, BlackBerry’s OS that was known for its highly secure interface fell down. Gradually, the firm lost its popularity in the smartphone market and decided to shift its focus to software development.

A report by Techook suggests that the Canadian BlackBerry is working on to create a secure version of the Google’s Android operating system called the BlackBerry Secure which the company plans to license out to other smartphone OEMs to run their devices.

According to reports, the company is already in talks with various smartphone makers including TCL and Optiemus to license out its own version of secure Android operating system.

“We have a number of different contracts that we are working on right now. We expect some to be announced soon,” BlackBerry Senior Vice President, General Manager, Mobility Solutions, Alex Thurber told ET. “We have an agreement with Optiemus for the India market for BlackBerry Secure.”

Additionally, the firm is also considering providing the secure OS for televisions, wearables and medical devices. “We have already started talking to a couple of medical manufacturers. BlackBerry CEO had also talked about TVs - there is an amazing amount of products that run Android and since we are able to make a very secure Android, we think there are a lot of opportunities. We have a very specific plan and we are working to that plan,” Thurber told ET.
