The iPhone 11 is launching in about a month’s time and Apple will add some serious tech in it to make it a must-buy handset. However, the leaks and rumours of the 2020 iPhone are gathering pace and this proves that the iPhone 12 will be the handset you should actually wait for. As per a recent report by Ming-Chi Kuo, MacRumors states that all the upcoming 2020 iPhones will be upgraded to 5G. Earlier, Kuo claimed that only the top two models would come with this new standard but now Apple’s plans appear to have changed since it acquired Intel’s smartphone modem business.

Kuo went on to explain that all three 2020 iPhones will run on 5G with mmWave and sub-6GHz spectrum. The former will enable the iPhones to have cutting-edge 5G speeds but it will only cover a relatively short distance. The latter will outpace 4G but will sacrifice on speeds to cover larger areas. This is a key factor for rural and suburban areas. In comparison, Android smartphones with 5G connectivity are said to be capable only to support sub-6GH 5G.

Kuo adds that Apple is testing a sub-6GHz 5G iPhone at a lower price point but he remains unsure whether the smartphone giant has the resources to develop four new iPhones at the same time.

Forbes states, “Interestingly, despite Apple’s modem acquisition (and Intel’s willingness to divulge the product roadmaps), Apple is still expected to make use of its April deal with Qualcomm to supply 5G modems in 2020. This is because Apple will not yet have the scale to cater for its own demand next year but, quite brilliantly, it is the Qualcomm deal which facilitated the Intel sale and now Apple has autonomy long term. This is exactly the kind of supply chain mastery Tim Cook specialises in.”

If you are still unconvinced of the 2020 iPhone is for you, then you will be pleased to know that Apple will be overhauling the design of the entire lineup by upgrading the display and adding fresh camera tech it salvaged from the yet-unannounced iPhone 11. An enhanced form of Touch ID may also make a comeback.

For those still of the opinion that the 2019 iPhone 11 will be a great purchase then you should reconsider as Kuo states that Apple will be adding 5G on its 2020 iPhones since customers will find it absolutely essential. This will make selling your iPhone 11 a tough draw as you may not get a great trade-in price.
