Exciting Apple iPhone 11 feature revealed in iOS 13
One of iOS 13's best features flies under the radar at the keynote that took place on the first day of the event.
With the WWDC 2019 keynote gone by, we know a fair bit of what to expect when it officially rolls out later this year. The iPhone 11 or whatever the Cupertino based company brands it will come with iOS 13 out of the box. Buried within all the upgrades such as Dark Mode and improvements to photo editing; a new feature has been discovered which could outweigh all the improvements that will feature with the next big iOS update.
With Apple iOS 13, there is a feature called ‘Optimized Battery Charging” and this great feature has been designed to extend the total battery life of your iPhone and iPad. Located within the Battery settings on your iOS device, under Battery Health, this new toggle switch allows your device to learn from your personal habits and slows down the charging to the full 100 per cent until you need your device.
MacRumors, who discovered this interesting feature states that for example, if, on a daily basis charge your iPhone every night while you sleep, Apple’s smart learning may charge it to about 80 per cent right away. After which, up to an hour or so before you wake up, the rest 20 per cent will get topped up. This helps with the overall health of the battery as it keeps your iPhone at optimal capacity rather than keeping it close to 100 per cent while plugged in.
MacRumors adds, “Avoiding topping up the battery continually while it sits on the charger reduces the amount of time that your device spends at maximum capacity, and over time, this could extend the life of your battery.”
This new feature comes at a time most need for Apple as last year the brand came under scrutiny for throttling the processor speeds of iOS devices with degraded batteries in order to prolong the device life as much as possible. This caused Apple to be more open about the overall battery health and even providing information about the battery capacity and its performance in the Battery section of an iOS device. Apart from the new Battery toggle, there are no reported improvements to battery health in the first available iOS 13 beta.
