The Redmi 6A and Redmi 6 will come across as the successor to the Redmi 5A and the Redmi 5.

When it comes to budget smartphones, Xiaomi comes across as an unstoppable force. The Redmi series of smartphones dominate the segment by huge margins. Therefore, Xiaomi likes to keep the lineup updated with new launches and upgrades occasionally. Recently, the Redmi 6 series of smartphones was unveiled in China and rumours of the new handsets making it to India pretty soon seem to hold matter.

According to 91Mobiles, Xiaomi is planning to bring the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A to Indian market pretty soon. However, compared to the previous Redmi offerings, the new models are powered by MediaTek processors in China and will be launched in the same spec in India.

Initially, Xiaomi was legally forbidden from selling smartphones built around MediaTek chipsets. However, the legal restrictions seemed to have been lifted as industry insiders have hinted towards the company readying to bring the new Redmi smartphones to the Indian shores with MediaTek chipsets.

The Redmi 6A and Redmi 6 will come across as the successor to the Redmi 5A and the Redmi 5, with the latter launched only a few months ago. Both the handsets sport 5.45-inches 18:9 LCD IPS displays with a  resolution of HD+ and are powered by MediaTek chipsets — the Redmi 6A is powered by a MediaTek A22 SoC whereas the Redmi 6 is built around the Helio P22 chip. The 6A is only available in a 2GB/16GB variant whereas the Redmi 6 is available in 3GB/32GB as well as 4GB/64GB variants. The Redmi 6A sports a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera whereas the Redmi 6 sports a 12MP+5MP dual camera setup and a 5MP front camera. Both are backed by a 3000mAh battery and run MIUI 9 based on Android 8.1 Oreo.
