Apple to release an update to encounter iPhone 6s battery issue
The company previously offered a free device replacement programme for users whose devices were affected.
Reports regarding iPhone 6s users experiencing an unexpected shutdown are circulating since the last couple of weeks. Following which, Apple conducted an investigation into this matter and discovered a bug that is affected the devices.
“We found that a small number of iPhone 6s devices manufactured between September and October 2015 were exposed to controlled ambient air for too long before a battery component was loaded into the battery pack, causing the battery to drain faster than normal, resulting in an unexpected shutdown,” a post on Apple’s Chinese website read. The company offered a free device replacement programme for users whose devices were affected.
However, Apple has spotted similar problems with devices that were manufactured outside the original September and October 2015 time-frame. In a recent post the company further admitted that “customers outside the affected range” were also experiencing shutdowns.
The company will, thus be releasing an update to fix this issue. “We are including additional diagnostic capability in an iOS software update which will be available next week. This will allow us to gather information over the coming weeks which may potentially help us improve the algorithms used to manage battery performance and shutdown. If such improvements can be made, they will be delivered in future software updates,” the Apple post read.
The diagnostic tool is expected to arrive in the form of iOS 10.2 in the coming week.
