Twitter's bold stand
Over 1.2 million accounts have been axed by Twitter for promotion of terrorism.
The number is in millions. Twitter has, from August, 2015, removed more than 1.2 million accounts for promoting terrorism. Counting from the first half of 2017 alone, it is 2,74,460 accounts. The data comes from the biannual Transparency Report.
“Of those accounts that were removed between July 1 and December 31 last year, 93 per cent were flagged by Twitter’s internal tools and algorithms. Around 74 per cent were suspended before ever tweeting — stats that are in line with Twitter’s report from the first half of 2017 as well,” explains Engadget, a tech news site.
“It’s not really the kind of ‘one million user’ milestone anyone likes to celebrate... it’s good to know that Twitter is finding and removing these accounts in such vast quantities,” writes recode.net.
